430 Stainless Steel Sheet – A Cost-Effective Decorative Solution by Orinox Steel

430 stainless steel sheets are known for their excellent formability, allowing for easy bending, shaping, or stamping into various architectural and decorative applications. Their reflective and bright surface makes them a popular choice for interior panels and decorative finishes on buildings. With a stable chromium content around 16%, this material offers an affordable alternative for less demanding corrosion environments.

Although 430 stainless steel is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades, it performs well in mild atmospheres—resisting rust in air, water, and light nitric acid conditions. At Orinox Steel, we provide useful insights and quality options for your projects that demand a balance between appearance, formability, and cost efficiency.

Types of 430 Stainless Steel Sheets

We supply two main categories of 430-grade stainless sheets:

430 Stainless Steel Sheet

Composed primarily of Fe (iron), Cr (chromium), and trace elements like Mn, Si, P, and S, this type can be polished to enhance its resistance to wear, oxidation, and mild chemical exposure. It’s a reliable material for decorative cladding and paneling.

430F Stainless Steel Sheet

A free-machining variation of 430, 430F sheets contain higher sulfur content, making them easier to machine but slightly lower in corrosion resistance. In particular, this type may show pitting or cracking around drilled or threaded areas, making it more suitable for non-structural components.

How to Calculate the Weight of 430 Stainless Steel Sheet

To help you estimate your material requirements, use the following formula:

Weight (kg) = Width (cm) × Length (cm) × Thickness (cm) × 7.93

  • 7.93 is the density of 430 stainless steel (g/cm³)

  • Make sure all dimensions are in centimeters and convert mm to cm accordingly (e.g., 1 mm = 0.1 cm)

Example: For a 1220 x 1250 mm sheet at 1 mm thick:
Weight = 122 x 125 x 0.1 x 7.93 = approx. 1,208 kg

430 stainless steel sheets are ideal for use in environments with mild corrosion exposure. Due to their modest corrosion resistance and adequate mechanical properties, they are well-suited for applications that don’t require high-performance stainless steel. Below are some of the common industrial and household uses of 430 stainless steel sheets:

Industrial Applications

  • Used in the chemical processing, petrochemical, and power generation industries.

  • Manufacturing of pipe fittings, flanges, and support components.

  • Suitable for equipment and parts in the fertilizer industry.

Household & Consumer Applications

  • Commonly used for kitchen appliances such as stovetops, wall-mounted range hoods, pots, and pans.

  • Ideal material for anti-rust wall cladding panels in residential and commercial interiors.
